BC Kyiv took a big step toward the second round of the Northern European Basketball League playoffs when Polonia Warbud (Poland) couldn't complete its last-minute comeback and lost at home to Kyiv 80-83. BAR OPENING/Golden Gate. The long-awaited addition to Kyiv's English-Irish pub scene, Golden Gate Irish Pub and Restaurant, opens its doors Saturday night with an invitation-only party. It opens to the general public at noon on March 25. Golden Cup features a wide assortment of beers on tap including Taller, Stella Artois, Kilkenny, Murphy's, Red Fortress, and Paulaner with more to come in the future. SPORTS/World Cup Soccer. Ukraine's national team goes into its fourth 2002 World Cup qualifier well positioned to make a run at the finals next year. The team stands tied for second place in group 5 after a key away win against Norway last October. With first-place Poland facing a tough match in Oslo against struggling group favorite Norway, Ukraine can possibly move into first place with a win. But first it must make it past surprising Belarus, which also has six points. The team has both of its big guns, Serhy Rebrov and Andriy Shevchenko, coming in for this one. Shevchenko is leading the Italian Serie A is scoring, while Rebrov has caught fire with England's Tottenham, notching three goals in his last two games. With local club Dynamo Kyiv having an off year, it's been a while since fans have had something to cheer about. You can bet the crowd will be fired up for this one. Ukraine vs. Belarus. SPORTS/Boxing. Volodymyr Klitschko (Ukraine) vs. Derrick Jefferson (U.S.A.). The bout's in Germany but all TV sets in Kyiv will be tuned to 1+1 (UT-2) to watch the younger Klitschko brother try once again to prove he's worthy of a date with the big boys. Coverage on 1+1 begins at 10:35, with Klitschko likely to fight around midnight Check sports pages for preview of fight and listing of sports bars.
CONCERT/Aquarium. Russian underground band Aquarium will be performing at Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. The band will be promoting their latest release, "Territory," a compilation of 17 songs recorded between 1983 and 2000. Aquarium. Chalie's Angels (USA). Based on the popular 70s TV show, three cute chicks work for the mysterious Charlie. They are the female 'James Bonds' of our time. Cruella De Vil is released from prison a changed woman Devoted to dogs and good causes, she is delighted that Chloe, her parole officer, has a dalmatian family and connections with a dog charity. But the sound of Big Ben can reverse the treatment,.So it is only a matter of time before Ms De Vil is back to her incredibly ghastly ways, using her new-found connections with Chloe and friends, from March 23.

Dinosaur (USA, animation). Long before humans appeared on the planet, dinosaurs ruled the earth. On a little offshore island, a clan of lemurs finds a dinosaur egg hatching. Since there are no parents, the temurs take care of the newborn, Aladar. Years later, a medium-sized meteor goes down close to the island and the shockwave forces its inhabitants to flee to the continent. There, Aladar and his family meet other dinosaurs for the first time as well as real dangers. Since Aladar grew up with a different understanding of the ways of the world, his way of helping others first isn't accepted within the herd, but soon it is proven that reason may be better than panic. O Brother Where Are You? Three 1920's convicts escape from jail intent on getting to the loot stashed away by one of them. As this is at his house, which is soon to be flooded by a new dam, speed is of the essence. They find themselves fast-talking their way out of one jam after another, and along the way not only have to be wary of riverside sirens but even get to make a pretty good country record. Lost in Space (USA). In the near future, earth's fossil resources are about to be used up. In an attempt to save the human race, scientists have begun building a gate through which faster than light travel will be possible - but only if there is a gate at the destination to receive the travelers. The Robinson Family has been chosen to travel to Alpha Prime - the only other inhabitable planet known - at normal speed, ten years, cryogenically frozen. But Dr. Smith, a sinister man, sabotages their spaceship, Jupiter 2, but is also betrayed by his people. He has to work together with the Robinsons in order to survive himself. March 28, 3 p.m.
